J is for Junior Fishing Derby

While the annual Fishing Derby is always a pretty big turn out, less people know about the Kids (Junior) Fishing Derby that takes place every June. It’s been going on for 28 years. Prizes include trophies, ribbons, and goodies such as bikes, fishing poles and supplies and much more.

My oldest won first place for biggest fish and is still proud of his trophy, proudly displayed on their sports wall. My kids have been fishing since they were about 5 but its only been on a fairly regular basis these past four years.

Kids also get their picture taken with their fish, you get a printed copy of it, and there are games, such as beanbag toss, line casting and face painting. Lots of great activities for the family. It’s always so much fun!

If you’re in the area and you’ve never been to a fishing derby before, be sure to bring the kids to the 28th annual Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday June 6th starting at 6:00 am. It’s free and as well as being eligible for prizes, kids eat free. Parents also eat for a small donation.
